Olympic Park, London
Contractor: Buckinghams
Consultant: CAPITA
The 7,500 capacity sports arena (London Olympics “Copperbox“) situated within the Olympic Park staged Handball and Modern Pentathlon events during the 2012 London Olympics and was also used for Goalball during the subsequent Paralympics. The contract was worth £220,000 and took 8 months from design to installation.
In addition to the Lighting Control Components of the system zencontrol provided control solutions for:
- High Inrush HDTV Lighting
- Sun pipe aperture motors
- Lux Lift motors
- Toilet Water Solenolds
Operating in conjunction with the Field of Play controls a fully automated and networked lighting control system was provided for the 13,700 sq metre back-of-house area, which includes facilities for catering, security, media and the athletes temporary warm-up area.
All of the lighting controls including the mechanical items were remotely controlled from a head-end PC. The system provided live status of components to ensure everything ran smoothly at the arena with millions of people watching the Olympics throughout the world.
Set up and maintenance was further assisted by the use of iPads for engineers to configure system parameters whilst observing equipment operation and performance in the venue. Particularly useful for the 15 metre high Lux lift motors and Sun Pipe aperture control.
