Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal opened Cheltenham Racecourse’s new centerpiece grandstand on Friday 13th November 2015.

The stand, which adopts the name of the Princess herself, was the final part of a £45million redevelopment of the course; five and a half stories comprising bars, toilets, restaurants, private boxes and viewing facilities for racegoers.

The ground floor of the stand consists of a public bar and bistro, whilst the first floor affords Annual Members their own facilities, including access onto a dedicated section of steppings overlooking the course itself.

The second floor has an Owners & Trainers bar and a balcony allowing patrons to overlook the parade ring, horsewalk and course.

On the third floor 11 private boxes are placed alongside the new Royal Box, whilst the top floor houses The Cheltenham Club, offering members a table for the season to enjoy fine dining and one of the most impressive settings in British sport.

The redevelopment of Cheltenham Racecourse has seen a total of 14 different projects being completed within a 19 month period. The improvements firmly, and further, cement Cheltenham as the outstanding Home of Jump racing.

zencontrol were employed to provide an addressable DALI based lighting control system to all front of house areas and external lighting within the new stand.

The system provides a combination of presence detection, absence detection, regulating photocells and scene recall.

Bespoke iPad interfaces were provided to the royal box, the private boxes and the bar areas for customised scene control complete with colour change functionality.

The supervisory head end PC allows 24 hour monitoring of all DALI ballasts/drivers and system components in addition to calendar based timed events and system re-configuration tools.
