A networked control system from zencontrol is providing a sophisticated lighting management strategy for the new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre in Rugby.
Operated by Greenwich Leisure Ltd, the new leisure centre includes a 100 station gym, a 25m, 8-lane swimming pool, a state of the art studio pool, a climbing wall, a six court sports hall and coffee shop. The lighting management strategy is designed to ensure appropriate lighting levels are maintained while minimising energy consumption.
The main sports hall has quite complex switching requirements to suit the different activities that it hosts. To make this easy for leisure centre staff to manage on a day-to-day basis, zencontrol has provided a scene panel for setting different lux levels, combined with a switch that controls each court individually. This provides staff with a high level of flexibility to manage the lighting for any combination of courts.
Circulation areas and changing rooms are fitted with presence detection to turn lighting off when areas are unoccupied. Further energy savings are achieved by dimming lighting close to windows when sufficient natural daylight is entering the area.
