The Challenge
Erskine House required a lighting solution capable of supporting a large multi-floor office development while meeting modern expectations for energy efficiency, system integration, and operational control. The project demanded a robust and intelligent lighting infrastructure that could provide full addressable control, simplify emergency lighting management, and integrate seamlessly with the building’s wider management systems.
With over 100,000 square feet of premium office space spread across eight floors, the system needed to ensure reliable performance, provide real-time operational insight, and support ongoing compliance with emergency lighting standards. At the same time, the contractor required a solution that would be easy to manage and flexible enough to adapt to the changing needs of building operators and future tenants.
The Lighting Control Solution
zencontrol implemented a comprehensive DALI-2 lighting control system throughout Erskine House, delivering a fully addressable and intelligent platform designed to optimise performance and efficiency across all areas of the building. The installation includes DALI-2 Application Controllers, LCMs, relays, PIR sensors, switch interfaces, and scene set modules, all working together to provide seamless and responsive lighting control.
The system enables lighting to automatically respond to occupancy and operational requirements, improving energy efficiency while maintaining a comfortable and productive working environment. Each floor benefits from precise lighting control and flexible scene configuration, allowing building operators to tailor lighting performance to different working environments and operational schedules.
By combining advanced DALI-2 technology with intelligent automation, zencontrol has delivered a solution that enhances both operational efficiency and occupant experience throughout the development.
Emergency Lighting and System Control
Ensuring reliable and compliant emergency lighting was a key priority for the Erskine House project. zencontrol addressed this requirement through a powerful graphical user interface that provides complete visibility and control over the lighting system.
The intuitive interface allows facility managers to schedule emergency lighting tests, monitor system performance, and access detailed test reports in real time. This significantly reduces maintenance complexity and ensures that emergency lighting remains compliant with safety regulations. System adjustments can be made quickly and efficiently, giving building operators full control over lighting performance and ongoing system management.
This streamlined approach simplifies day-to-day operations while providing confidence that the building’s emergency lighting infrastructure is continuously monitored and maintained.
BMS Integration
A key feature of the Erskine House installation is the full integration between the zencontrol lighting system and the building management system using BACnet over IP. This integration allows real-time data to be shared between systems, creating a more connected and intelligent building environment.
Through this connection, the BMS can access valuable information such as occupancy status and DALI fault monitoring, enabling faster response to system issues and improved operational insight. The integration enhances overall building performance by allowing lighting data to contribute to wider building management strategies, supporting efficient operation and proactive maintenance.
By enabling seamless communication between lighting and building management systems, zencontrol has helped create a smarter and more responsive commercial environment.
Advanced Emergency Lighting Technology
In addition to the lighting control system, zencontrol supplied emergency lighting products from the industry-leading Ektor range, bringing advanced battery and charging technology to the project. The inclusion of smart charging and soft charging features ensures improved battery performance and extended product lifespan, while LiFePO4 battery technology provides enhanced reliability and efficiency.
This advanced approach to emergency lighting ensures that the system operates safely and efficiently while reducing long-term maintenance requirements. The integration of high-performance emergency lighting products further strengthens the overall reliability of the building’s lighting infrastructure and supports long-term operational sustainability.
A Future-Ready Commercial Environment
The Erskine House project highlights zencontrol’s ability to deliver intelligent lighting control solutions that integrate seamlessly with modern building systems and support future growth. By using open DALI-2 standards and BACnet communication, the system has been designed to adapt to future operational and technological requirements.
This forward-thinking approach ensures the building benefits from a scalable and flexible lighting infrastructure that can evolve alongside future smart building technologies. The result is a commercial environment that supports efficiency, compliance, and long-term performance while providing lasting value for building operators and tenants.
