Project Overview

The Leicester City FC Training Ground is a state-of-the-art £100 million elite sports facility, completed in 2022 to support the club’s first team, academy and operational staff. Designed as one of the most advanced training environments in UK football, the development brings together performance, medical, administrative and residential facilities within a single, integrated campus.

The site includes 14 full-size training pitches, a 500-seat show pitch, medical and rehabilitation facilities, training and administrative buildings, accommodation areas and a private golf course, creating a comprehensive high-performance environment for players and staff.

To support the complex operational requirements of the site, zencontrol was selected to deliver a fully addressable, intelligent lighting control system across the entire facility.

The Lighting Control Solution

zencontrol supplied and commissioned a fully addressable DALI-2 lighting control system throughout the training ground, providing flexible and reliable control across a wide range of building types and operational spaces.
The system incorporates:

·      DALI-2 Application Controllers
·      DALI-2 Relays
·      DALI-2 PIR occupancy sensors
·      DALI-2 Switch Interfaces
·      DALI-2 Scene Set control panels

This combination delivers precise, responsive lighting control, allowing different areas of the facility to be configured according to their specific operational needs, from training and medical spaces to offices, accommodation and support areas.

Centralised Control & Emergency Lighting Management

A graphical user interface provides building operators with an intuitive and user-friendly platform for system control and monitoring. Through this interface, users can schedule emergency lighting tests, generate compliance reports and make system adjustments in real time, ensuring efficient operation and simplified maintenance.

The centralised system enables full visibility of lighting performance across the entire training ground, supporting reliable operation and long-term system management while reducing manual intervention.

Sustainability & Energy Efficiency

The zencontrol DALI-2 lighting control system supports the training ground’s sustainability objectives by enabling intelligent, demand-led lighting operation across a large and diverse estate.

Through the use of occupancy sensing, scene-based control and centralised monitoring, lighting is only used when and where it is required, helping to reduce energy consumption and minimise operational carbon emissions. The addressable system also allows future reconfiguration and optimisation as the facility evolves, ensuring long-term efficiency and performance.
