Project Overview

Completed in early 2018, the new Emergency Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary is designed to support one of the busiest emergency care services in the UK, providing a modern, high-performance environment for patients, clinicians and facilities teams.

Designed for the Future of Care

Developed to meet the demands of an ageing population, the department operates as a fully paper-free facility, delivering a streamlined electronic service that improves efficiency, saves space and accelerates clinical workflows. Integrated CT and MRI scanning facilities significantly reduce waiting times, supporting faster diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.

The Lighting Control Solution

zencontrol delivered a fully addressable DALI-2 lighting control system throughout the Emergency Department. The installation includes DALI-2 Application Controllers, Luminaire Control Modules (LCMs), PIR sensors and Switch Interfaces, providing intelligent, flexible and energy-efficient lighting control across all areas.

Enhancing Patient Wellbeing

Human-centric lighting (circadian rhythm control) was implemented within the recovery wards, automatically adjusting colour temperature throughout the day. This approach supports patient comfort, promotes natural sleep cycles and contributes to improved recovery environments.

System Management & Compliance

A graphical user interface enables users to schedule and manage emergency lighting tests, access detailed test reports and make system changes through an intuitive, easy-to-use platform, supporting ongoing compliance, efficiency and long-term reliability.
