The Task
The Scania HQ project demanded a lighting solution capable of managing multiple floors and office zones while maintaining simplicity for building operators. With a modern open-plan office environment, the system needed to provide precise control over lighting scenes, occupancy-based automation, and energy efficiency, while remaining easy to operate and maintain.
Additionally, the solution needed to support automatic DALI addressing and grouping, allowing rapid deployment and minimising installation complexity across the three floors, without compromising functionality or flexibility for future adaptations.
The Lighting Control Solution
zencontrol implemented a fully addressable DALI-2 lighting control system throughout the Scania HQ. The installation includes DALI-2 Room Controllers, PIR sensors, switch interfaces, and scene sets, creating an intelligent and adaptable lighting environment.
At the heart of the system, the zencontrol Room Controller acts as a hybrid LCM/DALI Application Controller. This pluggable module provides control of up to 64 ECG and 63 ECD devices over three phases. It supports automatic DALI addressing and grouping, simplifying installation and enabling rapid configuration across multiple zones.
The system allows lighting to respond dynamically to occupancy, schedules, and operational needs, delivering energy savings while maintaining optimal comfort for employees. Scene sets provide flexible control for different office activities, including open-plan working, meeting spaces, and circulation areas.
User Control and Flexibility
The intuitive interface of the zencontrol system allows facility managers to easily configure lighting scenes, monitor performance, and make adjustments in real time. Occupancy sensors automatically manage lighting in unoccupied areas, further improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.
By combining automated control with scene flexibility, Scania HQ benefits from a lighting system that adapts to the daily requirements of the workspace while remaining simple for staff to operate.
Future-Ready Infrastructure
The use of DALI-2 standards and hybrid Room Controllers ensures that the lighting system at Scania HQ is fully scalable and adaptable. Future expansions, reconfigurations, or integrations with building management systems can be achieved with minimal disruption, providing a long-term, flexible solution that evolves with the building’s operational needs.

Scania HQ now features a fully integrated, intelligent DALI-2 lighting control system that delivers precise, energy-efficient lighting across three floors. zencontrol has created a high-performance solution that combines automated control, flexible scene management, and user-friendly operation, providing a workplace environment that is comfortable, efficient, and future-ready.
